Your privacy in your hands
Zipano Technologies was founded to commercialize novel user-controllable privacy technologies developed to promote the broad adoption of emerging context-aware applications and services.
These unique technologies have been packaged in the form of a highly scalable and easy to integrate privacy platform that empowers users to more effectively control how their information is shared – whether with other users or with different applications and services.
Zipano's User-Controllable Privacy Platform is the product of a multi-million dollar research investment at Carnegie Mellon University with funding from organizations such as Nokia, Microsoft, FranceTelecom and the US National Science Foundation. It defines a new layer of interoperability that enhances adoption of context-aware services and social networking applications while drastically reducing integration efforts. Scientific studies have shown that the unique functionality embedded in Zipano's platform can play a key role in unlocking the potential of a variety of context-aware and social networking applications – from LBS, location sharing and mobile advertising all the way to location-enabled browsing or calendar sharing.
Locaccino is a Facebook application built on top of Zipano's privacy platform that expose more meaningful privacy settings to users. This includes enabling them to restrict access to their location based on the day of the week, the time of the day, or where they are when someone is looking for them. In addition, they can take advantage of the unique logs maintained by the platform to develop auditing functionality that empowers users to review who has requested their location, at what time and where they were at that time. A demo of how Zipano's approach to privacy is implemented using Locaccino can be found here.
